Catherine Deneuve is one of the most classic and graceful actresses of the last fifty years. The French star’s career stretches over half a century and she is one of the busiest actresses currently working. I am inspired by her strong work ethic and her determination to develop and improve as an actress. She has a lot of respect for directors and is an actress who places a lot of importance within the direction they give. Throughout her career she has balanced her star persona, a mixture of sexual deviancy and angelic vulnerability, with her secretive and mysterious personal life.
Her success in French art cinema in the nineteen sixties cemented her position as a star. Over the following decades she successfully translated over to American audiences and she became a global star. She found a strong lesbian following after her performance in Tony Scott’s The Hunger; playing a vampire who hunts out her next victim. Personally, I think her most striking performance is in Belle De Jour. Her innocence and sexual longing intertwine to make her character incredibly fascinating. Her beauty is staggering and her subtlety on screen is captivating.
