Best New Releases: 2013.

2013 has certainly been an exciting year for cinema. Amidst the many hours I’ve spent in dark cinema screenings, a few films have stood out. The following list documents what I consider to be the best new releases I’ve seen since January. This post will be followed up by a piece discussing the worst releases of 2013.

1. McCullin

2. Philomena

3. Blackfish

4. Captain Phillips

5. Amour

6. Stoker

7. Behind the Candelabra

8. Les Invisibles

9. Blue Jasmine

10. What Maisie Knew

My reviews of all of the above films can be found on this site. This list demonstrates some superb work from returning auteurs such as Haneke and Allen and some exciting entries in the documentary category. With the upcoming Academy Awards we can expect the next few months of cinema to be rich in quality and subject. As the new year begins we can look forward with excitement to the likes of 12 Years a Slave and The Railway Man. Happy New Year everyone and thank you for your interest in my site during 2013.

Thanks for reading and let’s all keep supporting our beloved film industry.
