Doubting the Monsters.

I recently saw the trailer for the upcoming prequel to Pixar’s Monsters Inc, Monsters University. Unfortunately, I was not overly impressed. I know it’s just a trailer, only a minute or so in length, and I can’t form an opinion until I’ve seen the film; however, seeing this trailer has made me feel anxious about the film’s release, rather than excited.

An original storyboard sketch from Monsters Inc (2001)

Monsters Inc is undoubtedly my favourite Pixar feature film. Incredibly intelligent, imaginative and full of comedy, heart and loveable characters, I have always favoured it over other classics such as the Toy Story trilogy and Finding Nemo. Personally, I view it as the most witty of all Pixar’s current creations. I am not dreading the prequel, I am just being cautious. I can only hope that the magic of the film has somehow been lost in a commercial trailer and that, when the time comes to witness the entire film, it will be brimming with homage, comedic dialogue, a gripping storyline and hilarious characters, just like the original.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for reading and let’s all keep supporting our beloved film industry.
